“All the poets, all the saints, all the people that are in my library, that produce the best dreams of humanity. I’m part of it, and I cannot betray it. So, I have to be with them. I cannot be with the politicians. I am with the dreamers of humanity.” #jonasmekas
“We’ll surround the earth with film flowers - that’s what our movies will do. Marie Menken movies, Kenneth Anger movies, Robert Breer movies: they will melt your hearts. You won’t be critics any more, you won’t be judges of morals and behavior: you’ll be watchers and lovers.” Jonas Mekas, The Village Voice, 1965.
R.I.P. Jonas Mekas. This still is from his film “Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania” (1972). He was at the top of a hike in the Catskills in 57’ or 58’ and he explains that it was the first time that he didn’t feel alone in America.
